I'm not a neat freak at all, and lord knows I keep a lot of stuff around, but the truck was going.....and wouldn't you know.
At least it's an easy fix. What's a little more "gas n wire" between a "cooker and creator"!

Had a little time to spend this week. Finished FB mocked up in the pics is now welded on and the BP is tacked in. so close but yet so far!
One evening I was dreaming of handles and wanted something different. I had some 5/16" rod laying around so I tried my hand at weaving it. Definitely has a unique look. One thing about it if I end up not liking I can always change it!

Thanks Guys!
RC..The wheels came from an old grain drill. Been looking for something different, Definitely has its own look! A neighbor was loading scrap and I happened to be at the right place at the right time. My only mistake I didn't take them all (there were 16)(missus was with me so I had to show restraint with no time to get creative)!
The pics show axle to the rear of pivot. I think I like axle forward better.
A little closer this weekend.
What have you guys been using for the open bell area to ensure the stuff you're cooking doesn't accidentally roll off onto the BP? The FB end of the CC is a no brainer...I'll use the stuff I have. I'm afraid though the perforated sheet I'm using for the grate with 5/16 holes will restrict too much at the BP opening. Thoughts?

I haven't used anything to cover that area on the ones I've made, but if you're concerned about it maybe just use some of the perforated material to create a curb on the cooking rack instead, so yo don't hinder the air flow.

It's really hard to drop a rack o ribs or a pork shoulder. If, however, you loose a chicken leg in the abyss once or twice its no big deal. If it happens three times tho, I'd put a 0.5 to 1 inch tall fence on the end.
I've never had and issue tho...
I love the wheels. I may lay awake tonight thinking of the 12 lost wheels and what they may be doing right now!
Thanks guys!
DT---I have lost just a couple of winks over those 12! I've got my ear to the ground and eyes peeled for more!
dportz--I was looking for an easy way to make a steering pivot and I had the stuff laying around. I will use it to level things later. No matter how many times I measure I thought it would be handy to have! Might even help me fine tune drafting/temps?? Don't know.
No working on the smoker this weekend. It was the last weekend for youth deer season and I had one of my boys just pestering me to go. Thankful he was persistent! He harvested this buck last night--His first. Its boned and in the cooler for a 5 day soak. Then the grinder (not the choice cuts mind you!). I can smell the tenderloins smoking now! Mmm Mmm Good!

Been a while but here is the latest progress. Got the counter weight and therm installed along with grease dam and adjustable throat to fine tune the CC.
All I'm lacking is installing the seals in CC and FB and damper. So close.....test fire, sand blast, paint.
I plan on doing the "biscuit trick" during the test fire......It's a shame to waste all the heat but I don't want to be experimenting with some expensive cut on the rack. Got any suggestions for something cheap and forgiving to cook?
