Poor little trailer looks a tad overwhelmed...

Lol yeah.. the suspension is rated pretty high and should take it all okay. Not sure about the axle though. It would be a lot nicer had we started with a dual axle trailer!

I might look at shifting the smoker onto a better trailer in future. there is still a lot of work to go on that front, but it isn't far from having its first test fire!!!! =D =D!

If you attach the smoker on each end and in the middle it becomes a bridge for the trailer helping support the frame. That way you only have the axle and tires to be concerned about.

Long time no update! Progress has slowed.. but my mate built me this awesome smoke stack. Pull pin with lots of holes to set the right flow restriction.. nice butterfly valve. Works great

The chimney is fitted to the beast now - and we've mounted the air dampener - its starting to look like a smoker now!!

However we're up to the point where I'll be scheduling in a sand blasting, and then painting. I have some high temp paint I purchased, but on the tin its states I need to bake the paint in (at around 270f!!! for an hour!!), this is not possible..
The issue I have, is there are SOME areas of this cooker that will be exposed to high temperatures, such as around the doors - however by and large, this unit SHOULD be warm to the touch (ergo not in need of some extremely high temp tolerant paint)

My question to you, who I see as the most knowledgeable people on earth on this front..... do you have any suggestions for me, with regards to what paint I should use?

(My idea - use basic high temp steel paint on areas that are obviously going to be exposed to high temperatures, then use a more standard steel paint on areas that will be obviously a lot cooler - such as the 'back' (opposite the doors) side of the smoker, baring in mind this cooker is insulated)

The FB and places touching it are really the only places that have to have high heat paint. But even with that the paint rarely stays on a FB that’s not completely insulated. The areas touching it will still get very hot. It’s much different than a vertical or a UDS. On those the FB only gets a bit hotter than cooking temperature. But an offset is way different.

Update: chimney and air inlet fitted. Should be mounting the food rack holders this weekend, then sandblasting/painting next week

My smoke stack is the correct volume according to the feldon calculator, but I'm starting to wonder if I've chosen too large a throat for the stack..

At a glance, do you think this will provide the draw needed?

I don't think the opening to the stack is an issue because it's larger than the actual stack. If it was smaller than the size of the stack it would be a choke point and that would cause problems.

Mate made the expanded mesh firebox grate. Its pretty heavy gauge, should last years

As long as the frame is solid, you just cut off the expanded metal and replace it when needed. But yes, keep it out of the ash and it should last a good while. Nice progress.

Looking good. Still think the trailer seems a bit overwhelmed... #:-s

The temp between the cook chamber doors stays identical. The warmer doesnt get very hot.. however that particular teltru seems to not be telling tru! I think its reading 20f or so too low :/

That's awesome on the even temps! You might be able to calibrate that gauge but I know that some of the teltru's aren't able to be calibrated so you'd need to return it for another one.
