I think the reg powder coat would be fine on the smokeer it self. Now the firebox would be a different story.
I have not personally used it so pls dont take my words as gospel.
Jambo turns out some pretty wild paint jobs and I bet his paint isnt high temp paint.
I've since learned that the powder is good to 400 but you can get an 800 degree rated powder coat too. It's available in any color you want as long as you like black. Edgar's red is powder coat but those are insulated walls too. The bottom is good 'ole smoker paint and I've had it hotter than I care to admit ...
And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy.

I do too since I just blasted Eddy's tank and 2 plow discs and it was $63 just for the blasting...

If not using powder coating, what paint do most of you guys use on the smokers? I'm building a reverse flow trailer mounted smoker. Just sandblast and then use high temp engine paint from autostore? Maybe I should post this as a new topic?
Trickworm- you can use high temp grill paint or engine paint. I know that Sherwin Williams has a line of high temp paint. I think you can get all sorta color, but not positive. I dont know if it only comes in spray bomb or if you can get a quart or so.
I dont have anything that big so i buy spray bombs of high temp from da box store! If i was doing a trailer i would want to shoot it with a spray gun.
BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
you can get the rustoleum grill paint at most any lowes etc. in a quart can for spraying in flat black or you can use the spraytbombs in other color. for the cook chamber, 500 degree engine paint will wrk ok. fire box really should be 1200 degree. rustoleum now makes 2000 degree gray primer.
great. ill checkout lowes. plan on shooting trailer silver, then black on smoker with silver flames to match truck. thanks for the paint info. didnt know rustoleum had 2000deg paint! wow.
