Why would you want a thermometer in the FB? At the end of the day the temp in the CC is what matters?
Am I missing something?

I read a post earlier in reference to this and that an operator was able to more accurately predict when fuel needed to be added because the drop in temp of the CC took approx. 30 min. to register a temp drop in the FB. So If it takes 30 minutes for that temp to be recognized at the CC then it would stand to reason that it would take approx. that time again to get it back up without over doing it and rushing past your set point (target temp) - Leveling out the peaks (temp spikes) and valleys (temp drops) so to speak -

Interesting idea, but I would think you'd be babysitting the thing constantly to know when that drop occurs, unless you're using something like the Maverick that would alert you of the temp drop. Don't know if their probes would be able to take the heat though.

If you have the stem behind a shadow plate then the 800F gauges will work. If not then I don't know of any gauge that will work.

I saw an indicated temp of 500F to 650F on Edgar to get a 250F CC. He was insulated and FB temp was higher at the beginning of a burn but took less heat once you got all the steel hot. A FB gauge is certainly not a requirement but it will give you an indication a few (15?) minutes ahead of time when your CC is going to change and in what direction. Besides - gauges look quooole! :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

Here is a link to get a 3 inch face on a 2.5 inch stem that has a range of 100*F to 1000*F.

The prices look pretty good. Only thing I wonder about is the quality and accuracy. I've not seen where they are adjustable. I do, however, like all the range options and size/stem configurations. Good find Blutick

I think at the price I will give them a try - If they last a year or two then that's not to bad I guess - I'm a tinkerer at heart so changes will be forthcoming - :kewl:
